Observation
What is Observation?
Is a
technique of gathering data whereby you personally watch, interact, or
communicate with the subjects of your research (Meng, 2012)
Types of Observation Method:
Steps in Observation method:
•PREPARE
your checklist, notes, guide, plan, timeline, etc.
•ASK permission in authority (State your purpose and timeframe)
•CONDUCT
your observation
•RECORD
the data gathered (record it through checklist, notes, video or audio recoding)
•ARRANGE/Group the data
in “THEMES”
•WRITE THE DATA
•PRESENT the data
1.Participant
Observation- The observer, who is the
researcher, takes part in the activities of the individual or group being
observed.
2. Non-participation or Structured
Observation-The researcher just watch
and listen to the subject, without the
researcher participating in any of the activities. (uses checklist)
Methods of Observation:
1.Direct Observation- This observation method makes you see or listen to
everything that happens in the area of
observation.
2.
Indirect Observation- This method is
also called behavior archaeology because, you observe traces of past
events to get information or measure of
behavior, trait, or quality of your subject.
